DEV Does it Daring with HELLZ BELLZ Fashions

DEV's new music video for  "Booty Bounce" has not only exploited their amazing musical talent, but also a new and upcoming online retailer, HELLZ BELLZ. Founded by Lanie B. in 2005, HELLZ BELLZ focuses on fashions that liberate women everywhere. With inspiration from the bra burnings of the 1960s to the endless array of options in woman's clothing today, HELLZ BELLZ expresses to the masses their efforts to oppose sexual oppression. Their motto simply says it all: A Crime for all Seasons.

I simply love the Urban feel of each collection. It really expresses the idea that, "Here I am, I'm fabulous, and if don't like it.. get out of here", Which is much like the message of DEV's music. It pushes the envelope on day to day fashions and conveys a BOLD approach to fashion. So to sum it up: You must have whit and personality in order to wear this clothing! It's not intended for your quiet, "stand off in the corner" type. It screams "LOOK AT ME!" and portrays an independent, self-sufficient, go-getting demeanor. And yes, I LOVE it!

Some of my favorite looks from the site:

This outfit consists of a gathered black skirt with exaggerated pockets. I love the gathering detail because it has the ability to enhance your hips, and the exaggerated pockets make you look smaller. Also, shoulder pads are a big trend right now. They also give a "skinny" illusion to the arms, which I love! I sported a similar look to a recent black and white party at Fluid Night Club here in Bowling Green:

**Me (left) and Michele (right) at Fluid Nightclub's Black and White Party on Feb. 25th**
There are no exaggerated pockets, but I do have the gathered side panels on my skirt and the same gathered detail on my blouse sleeve with an emphasized shoulder.

Another HELLZ BELLZ item I thought was amazing is their retro inspired, water resistant watch in black and yellow. It reminds me of the 80s and all the bold, plastic accessories that were in at that time.

The one thing that really kept me looking at this retailer is their prices. Not only are the fashions hip, and quality, but  much like Urban Outfitters almost anyone can afford to wear this stuff! I think a lot of retailers are realizing that people are pinching their pennies in order to stay cost efficient and withstand their standard of living. As a college student, I can relate to this concept very much! And I think it's great that retailers are noticing the middle class more and more!

KIM K. Says "YES!" To White before Spring

Photobucket

So it is true and has been for a while: White is not limited from the first day of Spring to Labor Day! Kim Kardashian expresses her readiness for the Spring season by sporting this beautiful  60s inspired overcoat at the Premiere of "Unknown" in Los Angeles, California. Not only do I love the funnel neckline, I also love it's bell-like silhouette! This coat can be found on stellamccartney.com in her Spring 2011 Collection:

Although it's hard to keep up with the Stars, you can have this look too! Marc New York carries a similar piece in black wool for as low as $181.99 at  Bluefly.com.  As well as ASOS for $80.69 in green.

Trend Allert: Disco Dy-no-might? Maybe?

After brushing through Elle and Vogue, one particular trend remains embedded in my memory: Disco. So, don't put up those metallic shimmery shades and shines just yet! The new year may be over, but the trend remains! Spring 2011 is going to be full of golds, bolds, silvers, and shimmers!

Assignment Three: Ethical Blogging

What is ethical blogging? When mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is respect. I believe that in order to blog ethically, the blogger must respect their content and who’s involved in it. Another word that comes to mind is integrity. CyberJournalist.net states, “Integrity is the cornerstone of credibility,” and I couldn’t agree more. If you have integrity, then you have respect, which means you also have good ethics. Ways of going about this includes: honesty, open-mindedness, and accountability. Give credit where credit is due and do not plagiarize. If you get an idea or a picture from a source, let the reader know where it came from. Also, be aware of others and their feelings. An open mind is the key to success. If you avoid bashing and bias opinions on controversial matters, a lot more people are going to be willing to listen to what you have to say. And last, if you mess up, own it. Be accountable for everything you say and do. People are watching you!
As a newbie in the world of blogging, I am quick to watch my Ps and Qs. Many of us have learned the hard way that you can say something in text, and the context be taken completely differently by the reader. You can seem angry when you’re sad, or threatening when you’re genuine. Image yourself as the reader and you can better judge what mood and message you’re getting across.

Assignment Two: Networking: The New Tool In Retailing

These days, you can't access any popular networking site without being subjected to retail advertisements or something that says "BUY THIS." Even when logging into facebook I not only notice the sidebar advertisements, I realize that I, myself, have taken part in advertising on facebook. When taking part in online shopping, I have been known to post items from various retailers onto my facebook page in order to share what I find interesting and fashionable with others. Why do I do this? Because I not only want to share the excitement of my newly found object of obsession, but I also want others to comment and tell me what they think about the item before I purchase it. I want feedback. And that's what social networking is about: feedback. Along with posting retail items on the wall of my profile, I also advertise for my place of employment, Tradehome Shoes. Every Thursday we get in hot, new merchandise. My thinking is: Why don't use free advertisement to my advantage on facebook, boost my sales, and end up ahead in the end? So with that in mind, I go through the store taking pictures with my iphone, and posting them to facebook. For example, I added this photo to facebook when we got new TOMS in:
Surprisingly, I got a lot of feedback from posting this picture. Not only did I get comments on the photo, but  many people came into the store to purchase TOMS who had been informed through my post.

In Cotton Inc.'s article, "Picking Up On Social Cues," the discussion is focused on retailing through different networking sites including blogs, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Polyvore, Flickr, Twitter, and others. The article also states, "Most men (59%) and women (71%) have browsed the Internet for clothes, according to the Cotton Incorporated Lifestyle Monitor™ survey." So, SURPRISE! Not only women are shopping online for apparel goods, but men alike. Sites like Polyvore and not only advertise for retailers, but give fashion advise, and let the customer pick and choose amongst items in order to create "sets" that showcase their hand-selected items and how they all correspond with one another. This enables the customer to make several purchases from different sites in order to get the given look.

Not only are customers shopping at home on their computers, but now with the ability of smart phones, customers can shop from anywhere. Special apps allow customers to check out in a breeze and many retailers have special mobile sites that load faster and make shopping on your mobile device more accessible and less time consuming. As an iPhone user, I find myself browsing through mobile sites such as VictoriaSecret.com and UrbanOutfitters.com on my mobile device while waiting in lines, having downtime between classes, and at the gym. Because these sites at my demand by the touch of a finger, I find myself making purchases online and sharing my purchases via networking sites more and more.
To sum it all up, I believe that e-commerce and networking sites together are putting a new and interesting spin on consumerism. It's making the POS process faster, easier, and much more widespread. People who were not as  interested in fashion are being exposed to new and upcoming fashions rather they had intended on it or not, which is peaking interest in the world of fashion every second due to internet media. In a world were virtual networking is booming and technologies such a 3-D body scanning, virtual showrooms, and e-commerce is on the move, we can expect nothing more than growth and advancements in all aspects of the apparel industry.

Assignment One: The Future Of Blogging & The Fashion Industry

The fashion industry has turned many corners and taken many new approaches with the help of technology. No longer do we have to rely on the written words of editors alone in order to access new trends, upcoming styles, and fashion forecasts. We now also have the opportunity to hear from  bloggers! Blogging has not only reached an all-time high in popularity, but it has taken over the internet in ways of news, fashion, politics, business, and all sorts of avenues. It most certainly is the future of fashion literature. According to Murray Newslands, the top tens blogs are as followed:

1. Fashionista
2. Frugal-Fashionista
3. The Sartorialist
4. Omiru
5.The Cherry Blossom Girl
6. GoFugYourself
7.Goop
8.Jezebel
9. Fashion Toast
10.Manolo the Shoe Blogger

With the uprising of fashion blogs over magazines, and virtual shopping over actual shopping, you can't help to wonder what's next!  Many of these blogs not only tell you what's in fashion, but where to buy it simply by the click of a button. Let's see a magazine do that!

Although you would think that blogging is this new, exciting trend that everyone is doing and had just exploded amongst young people like facebook or twitter, you may want to think again. Blogger, Doriano "Paisano" Carta thinks states that, "blogging among teens and young adults has declined dramatically from 28 percent to 14 percent from 2006 to 2009." And Steve Rubel of Mashable Mind Map says, "blogging’s future will likely flow down one of two paths: either it will evolve and grow into something else (like many species have) or it will succumb to Darwinism and become extinct (like the Dodo)." But in order to truly know what the future of blogs entail, we can only wait to see.
